Enlivening connection to place ~ Moving in the Outdoors ~ is an opportunity to explore our sensual and storied connections to landscape and nature.
In the approach, our attitude in the body is quite like the self-observation-in-relaxation that one enjoys in seated meditation. Here though we take that into movement ~ free movement ~ in the context of outdoors and nature, in the spirit of reciprocity.
What to expect: Practice exercises include cultivating sensitivity to the elements, to plant-life and each another. The invitation is to awaken our own embodied proclivity for anchoring, pausing, transitioning-between, constellating, adapting, taking a step. We will take time for introducing the practice for the day, shifting into lightly guided movement in various modes (individual, duo, group) and enjoy a closing for the session.
What to bring: Please bring water, any preparation for the weather such as hat or sunscreen, waterproof jackets, pants, etc. A notebook if that seems useful.
Where: Reach out for downtown Ithaca location.
Cost: $60 per 4 week series; $150 for 12 week series
For whom: People of all backgrounds and bodies. For health, healing, lighten-ing, and dialogue.
How to register: Payment with cash, check or venmo confirms registration. Register in advance to ensure participation. Minimum participation, 6. Welcoming inquiry and any questions, nattie.hjn@gmail.com, 512 669 6985.
In addition, I will organize individual workshops for occasional Sunday afternoons in June and July, with dates to be decided in consultation with folks expressing interest in the longer format. These will be in Trumansburg & Taughannock Creek watershed.
Summer 2025 at Weld Studio, Trumansburg. Weekdays, 9:00-9:30am. Dates TBD.
Engage your breath and awareness through a series of simple and profound physical exercises, based in energetics and somatics. Activities are a mix of standing and seated. All movement backgrounds, abilities, bodies welcome. Basically, if you like the idea of wild swimming but without the chill, this could be for you.
Suggested donation of $5-$15 for your first class of the week, and come to any additional classes the same week for free. No one turned away for lack of funds.
Casual clothing works fine, yoga-type clothes also fine. No mats or blankets needed.
Morning Refresh
Mondays (3) April 7-21, 2025 // 5:15-6:45pm $45 for series
Location: Ithaca Movement Arts
A resource will be Releasing, as well as exploring other aspects of time, space and relationship. As improvisors, we will work within the nexus of sensation and action, deepening our emergent visual, kinesthetic, and tactile affinities, and opening to these as our material. Ideas for our practice might include entering, phrasing, influence, editing. With a focus on availability to movement impulse, we’ll explore our timing and its transient variations. Watching is part of our practice, to learn more about what is being made, and how we experience seeing and being seen.
This series is a continuation of courses offered in fall & spring 2024/2025, thus some experience in modern/post-modern approaches in dance, contemplative practice and/or somatic movement is necessary. Reach out to Julie with any questions.
